Desperately Seeking Color

These cold, dark, snowy days have me seeking out color. I have been finding myself attracted to anything that is bright, warm, and colorful. The snowy landscapes are beautiful to look at, yes, but I seem to be suffering from some serious gardening withdrawals. I am missing the bright yellows, oranges, reds,
and purples in the garden that are so bright you cannot help but take notice.

In the spirit of the new year, and all things colorful, I decided to give my blog a face lift. I wanted something that is both colorful and expressive of my personality. This new look seems to fulfill both of those desires. : )

Last weekend was beautiful, and we took advantage of it by going for a short hike. The sun was out for part of the day, which made the snow sparkle and shine. I came across some running water that had been trapped in time...

We soon realized that the crunching beneath our feet was a bed of icicles hiding beneath a thin layer of snow...

These berries are still holding on...

I am happy to be snuggled in, with a warm pair of slippers and a hot cup of tea... enjoying a couple new gardening books as well as a couple of my favorites. In addition, the insane amount of seed and plant catalogs that I keep finding in my mailbox should keep me occupied through these next few months... so far my favorite is the catalog from Plant Delights.

Your blog's new look is great! Your scenery may not be colorful, but it's pretty nonetheless. It looks very much like the shots I took in the park today, and you'll see them on my blog tomorrow! I just had to get out of the house and see a little scenery, even if it's barren, winter scenery.

When it's all white, or frosty, ideally with a glimmer of bleak winter sun, it's all gobsmackingly beautiful. But it is that greyness, isn't it, the bare branches, and dead foliage on a dreary day, that lack of light, that makes it just dull. Having said that, as a Swede, I'm happy to have so much more evergreens here in England than I am used to. And there are those winter-flowering plants, the Camellia, Hellebore, Sarcococca...
